CBZ Manga Reader

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

CBZ Manga Reader (“the App”) is a local-first manga and comic reader for macOS, iPhone, and iPad. This policy describes how the App and this website handle information.

1. Summary

You can open and read your own files without creating an account. Comic files, library paths, and reading progress stay on your device. Optional Lifetime Premium uses Apple’s StoreKit; Apple processes payment data, not us.

The App uses Google Firebase for Crashlytics (crash reports) and Analytics (anonymous product usage). We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA), we do not show ads, and we do not sell your personal information.

2. What stays on your device

  • User-selected local files (for example CBZ, ZIP, EPUB, and when unlocked CBR/RAR) that you open via system pickers, drag-and-drop, Open With, or library roots.
  • App preferences, reading progress, recents, favorites/collections (when used), and security-scoped bookmarks so the App can reopen files you chose.
  • Cached extracted page images, cover thumbnails, and (when used) on-device colorized pages in the app container. You can clear page cache in Settings. Colorization runs on-device; pages are not uploaded for that feature.
  • Core local reading does not require an internet connection. Diagnostics and analytics need network access when available.

3. Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

If the App crashes or encounters a serious error, Crashlytics may send diagnostic information to Google Firebase so we can fix bugs. Typical data includes:

  • Crash stack traces and error logs
  • Device model, OS version, and app version
  • A Crashlytics installation identifier

We use this only to improve stability. Comic file contents are not uploaded as part of crash reporting by design of this App.

4. Usage analytics (Firebase Analytics)

The App uses Firebase Analytics (without Advertising Identifier / IDFA collection) to understand anonymous product usage—for example app opens and similar aggregated events. Typical data may include device/app version information, coarse usage events, and Analytics instance identifiers.

Analytics is used for app functionality and product improvement, not for advertising or cross-app tracking. We do not sell analytics data.

5. What we do not collect for reading

We do not operate a user account server for reading. We do not upload your manga/comic files, library folder paths, or reading progress to our own servers. We do not show third-party ads in the App.

6. Service providers

Crashlytics and Analytics are provided by Google Firebase. Data is processed according to Google’s terms and privacy documentation for Firebase. Optional purchases are processed by Apple via In-App Purchase.

7. Purchases

Optional Lifetime Premium is purchased through Apple In-App Purchase (one purchase for Mac, iPhone, and iPad under the same Apple ID, subject to Apple’s rules). Apple handles identity and payment. We receive an entitlement signal via StoreKit on your device so Premium features unlock; we do not receive your full card details.

8. This website

This support website is a static site hosted on Vercel. The host may log standard request data (for example IP address, user agent, and request time). Contact is by email only; if you email us, your message is handled like normal email. Do not send sensitive personal data or content you are not allowed to share.

9. Children

The App is a general file reader and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what Crashlytics/Analytics may process as described above for any user of the App.

10. App Store privacy labels

Apple App Store Connect privacy nutrition labels for the App should reflect Crash Data, diagnostics/performance data, device identifiers used for analytics/diagnostics, and product interaction / usage data as applicable—and that this data is not used for tracking under Apple’s definition. If we add features that collect more (for example accounts or cloud sync), this policy and the App Store labels will be updated before that binary ships.

11. Changes

We may update this policy when the App’s data practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
